The struggle to find a place to live within my budget has been daunting, echoing a national trend of housing becoming increasingly out of reach for many. A recent study from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University revealed that a record half of all U.S. renters are now facing unaffordable housing costs. Shockingly, nearly half of these renters are severely burdened, forced to allocate more than 50% of their income toward housing expenses, leaving little for other necessities. As I continue my search for a place to call home, I am struck by the widespread financial strain that is affecting countless Americans, despite the portrayal of a thriving economy in the media and by politicians.
